Influence of Madden–Julian Oscillation on Precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau in Boreal Summer

The influence of the Madden–Julian oscillation (MJO) on precipitation over Tibetan Plateau (TP) during boreal summer is investigated using observational and reanalysis data 1980–2020. results show that most areas eastern TP increases (decreases) in MJO Phases 1–2 (5–6), especially when eastward-propagating active convection located Indian Ocean (Western Pacific) Phase 2 (6). significant negative anomalies 4 (8) are southern (northeastern) TP. Moreover, has a relatively weakened effect 3 7 its migrates to western–central Pacific, respectively. MJO-phase dependence closely associated with anomalous atmospheric circulation evolution horizontal moisture flux convergence directly induced by MJO. When centers western high-level anticyclonic low-level cyclonic circulations excited. In contrast, locates Maritime Continent, diabatic heating can inspire vertical motions transport from Bay Bengal caused MJO-excited large-scale modulate precipitation. This study advances understanding intraseasonal variability.
